Sharing Cities is inspiring Europe’s cities with smart ways to become more energy efficient and save money at the same time. A press release issued by Sharing Cities has spread like wildfire across the European news media.
The story focussed on smart lampposts, which combine LED lights with smart management systems. The LED lights drastically reduce energy consumption, while the management system lowers output based on environmental factors.
As street lighting takes up a huge portion of city budgets, this technology is coming as a huge relief to local administrations, and we estimated that it could save the EU €2.1 billion per year.
This technology is being demonstrated in Sharing Cities lighthouse cities Lisbon, London and Milan, and taken up in fellow cities Bordeaux, Burgas, and Warsaw.
